Does a child < 6 months of age require supplementation?

Posts

Baby less than six months of age should be exclusively on breast milk with supplementation with vitamin D3 only.
Iron supplements should be given after four months if the child remains exclusively on breastfeeding(not required if formula feeds are used).

The only reason to start the child on formula feeds should be:
1. If the mother must start work (there are lots of alternatives – we have a separate counseling session that we offer such mothers – please book an appointment well before you think of starting work).
2. The child’s growth curve is faltering – for that of course you need to follow up monthly and get the height, weight and head circumference charted regularly – not just noted but charted.
