Summer is here and so is chickenpox. Chicken pox is rampant in our country in summer. It is such a sad sight to see children and adolescents suffer from this nasty, itchy and disfiguring disease!

Prevention

What is worse is that this can be prevented by a course of two shots of the widely available chickenpox vaccine.

Who should receive the vaccine?

• All children – First shot at 15 months of age. The second any time after three months after the first shot.
• All healthy adults who have not suffered from chickenpox or shingles (Zoster) before also need to be immunized. Women who are in the child-bearing age must receive the vaccine before they plan a pregnancy. Chicken pox can cause devastating consequences to the tender, developing fetus. There could potential loss of the fetus or the risk of delivering a malformed baby!
